What can you possibly say about this? This is one of those ‘classic’ albums in every sense of the word. I’m actually not too impressed with Rhymin & Stealin; it’s not a good song and a strange choice for the opening. The song does have an interesting mix of Black Sabbath’s Sweet Leaf & Led Zep’s When the Levee Breaks. It’s still not enough to save it though. But, after that is when the album really takes off. My friends will know that this isn’t one of mine, it belongs to my wife. I do believe she knows (and frequently recites) every single lyric of this album. Honestly, how many of you can say that this album had no effect of you back in ’86. Even in my case having never owned it, I still have over half of this stuff ingrained in my brain. Hooray for 1986!

They definitely went crazy with all the samples, but they’re essential to the music. I guess the samples ARE the music. It doesn’t matter that the only ‘real’ instrument on here is Kerry King’s (of Slayer) guitar solo on Brooklyn. There’s something about the innocence of the drum machine parts and samples that really makes most everything sound good. Yeah, some of these songs are pretty useless, and don’t even make me laugh, but mostly this album is one big smile-inducer. It’s hard to pick a best track, as all the non-skippers are cool. I guess I’ll say either Girls or Brooklyn or maybe Brass Monkey. More than likely you’ll already own this, but if you don’t it’s worth it just for the amount it makes you smile.
