goodbye amp, hello amp

Hooray for new toys! I finally got a new bass amp this weekend. I bought my first bass amp back in 1992 and have had the same one since. Until now. I’m still playing a Fender, just an upgraded model. I have the same power I had before, but with a smaller speaker so it’s easier to lug around than my previous beast. Actually, the new amp gets louder AND doesn’t distort when you go over 4. It also sounds great on 11, which is always important. I’m still mucking around with the settings to get it to sound as good as it did in the music store, but I’m not too worried. I’m just happy that I was finally able to get one.

Hooray for early birthday presents! Thank you Julie!

Oh yeah, I turn 31 in a week from today. Can I get a woo?

The amp was the best part of the weekend and the UT game on Fryday was clearly the worst. I hate aggies, but I think I hate UT’s offensive coordinator worse. I’m gonna throw a party whenever he leaves the university, which won’t be soon enough. Cowboys won though, and that’s always great. I’m estactic that Romo’s kicking as much ass as he is. I forgot what it was like to have the Cowboys be a really good team.

Thanksgiving was really good. Julie and I fixed a great meal (that we’re still working on) and I managed to do a pretty good version of my mom’s cheese grits. Yay Mom! I am sorry that we weren’t able to spend T-giving with our “families” this year, as Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Hopefully next year we can make it back to Texas.

We wet up our Christmas tree and mild decorations yesterday. Played the Christmas music and everything. The tree looks great. It blocks the front door, but that’s OK since we never use it.

Week before last Jenn and I wrote up a temporary setlist and I think it looks good. We’ll run through it this week and tighten it up. We were planning on playing a “concert” for Julie and Eric last week, but they had a cat-child emergency so it’s been postponed. We did hang with them on Saturday for some great food (thanks again Jenn) and fun movies. Good time as always.

I’m excited for practicing tonight. Should be quite enjoyable. And I get to crank my NEW AMP! Yay!

Last night I went with Julie, Jenn & Eric to see my cousin Lisa play a gig out in Raleigh. She’s currently on tour with Deke Dickerson and will be for the next week or two. Great show, I really had a blast. Of course I always enjoy watching her bash the drums, but I also love a good rockabilly show…esp. when the musicianship was as good as it was last night. The bassist? Phenomenal.

Check out this video to see how good he is:

Hell yeah!

Seeing those guys and how damn good they were, it just further shows me how far I have to go until I’m a “good” musician. The thing is, it’s not a defeatist kinda thing, it’s more like…that makes me want to PLAY. To practice my butt off.

Live music makes me happy.

Life’s like a movie, write your own ending….

ah, I love the Muppets.
