lazy days

Hm, my desk and CPU are situated in such a way that my left knee is continuously hitting the eject button on the CD drive. Annoying.

I was lazy today, but that’s exactly what I wanted to do so, hey, go me! I didn’t get much sleep during the night (thank you asthma) so I went back to bed around 9 and got up around 1-2. I did watch the first episode from the Muppet Show Season 1 again this morning, with pop-up comments. That was fun. That first episode (the first one produced, not the first one actually aired) was really good. It has the “Mahna Mahna” skit, which is still one of my favoritest things EVER. 30 years later and the Muppet Show is still wonderful.

Post-sleep today was spent messing about with my launchcast station. I love jazz, but I had it programmed in such a way that it played too much jazz…and even then it didn’t play the stuff I wanted to hear, but other stuff I just happened to rate. So, I’m in the process of fixing it so that it plays less jazz and more RAWK! Although, I did hear one long-ass Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan piece that just kicked my bootie. If you care to ever listen to my launchcast station (which is still good, even if it’s been neglected for a while) just go to http://launch.yahoo.com/launchcast/play/?clientStationID=0&p=0&m=0&d=1144102624 and have a time listening.

Last night was the unveiling of the new home, with a party attended by Jenn, Eric & Kelly. The iPod was on shuffle and did not disappoint. At one time while we were on the couches discussing whatever we were discussing, Iron Maiden’s The Trooper came on and no one noticed. I was happy, almost as if I was being subversive. HAHA! Forcing them to listen to Maiden and they didn’t even notice! Yes, I am the only one of the group who enjoys Maiden. Although, and this was a shocker, Julie sorta admitted to liking 2 Minutes to Midnight earlier yesterday. I think the consensus is that she doesn’t “like” it, but it’s catchy enough and it doesn’t bother her to hear it. Woo-hoo!

Speaking of things Julie likes that surprise me…Thursday’s Adrian Belew show. If such could be achieved, he was actually *better* than the show in Dallas last year. He played more Crimson, beautifully, and his guitar playing was also better. I loved it, smile on my face the whole time. How he can play music so damn complex and still jump around and SMILE while he’s doing it blows my mind. Julie and Kelly went with me…Jenn woulda gone but she was a bit short on fundage. Next time. Kelly, a Belew and Crimson fan anyway, of course loved it. I was curious how Julie would react to the music since Belew can be a bit odd sometimes. Well, Julie absolutely LOVED it and said it was possibly the best show she’s ever seen. And that’s saying something since she’s seen me play. Har. She said her jaw was on the floor for the whole show and she couldn’t believe how amazing Belew was. She’s definitely not a prog girl, in any sense, so for her to start to understand this kind of music is really cool for me. Let’s see, my wife likes Adrian Belew, Phish, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Jimmy Buffett, live Rush (she really enjoyed Rush in Rio) and a small, but growing bit of King Crimson…among other things. I’d say that makes me pretty damn lucky to have a wife who’s not only open-minded, but likes good music. And she loves the Muppets too!

Yay Muppets!

OK, the Simpsons comes on in 8 minutes..I must go grab food before the madness starts.

Surrounded by Some Boxes

Hi!

For some reason the need just hit me to write, so I do. This past week has been fun, packing up all my stuff in Dallas and driving the car out here to NC. I came out here a month before Julie to get things established and then I flew back last week and we drove out here (again), this time with a big ol’ truck and towing her car. We arrived late Saturday night and the truck was supposed to be unloaded by a local group of guys. Well, they didn’t show! Thanks, buttmunches! Julie and I unloaded most of the truck, with Eric coming over to help out with the really heavy stuff. Thank you Eric.

Some other things have been consuming too much of our time, but we’re just about done with the unpacking. My room (that of the musicking) is the only one left to unpack. At least the computer is set up in here so I can listen to music.

I worked some on recording a few weeks back, but I think it’ll start in earnest once again maybe tomorrow.

Tonight I get to go see Adrian Belew, yes again. I saw him back in September I think and I guess I’m just fortunate that he chose to include Carrboro in his short tour for the Spring. What’s cool, is that I saw Robert Fripp a month ago in pretty much the same location…just a couple of doors down from the Cat’s Cradle. Seeing Fripp & Belew about a month apart is definite coolness. Hopefully next time they’ll be together, either in Crimson or “ProjeKct 6″ which is just the two of them. And, as if that weren’t enough, Project Object & Umphrey’s McGee are in the area in a few months. Sweet! Hopefully Jenn & I can add to that group of ‘upcoming shows’ whenever our debut happens. We have 4 songs so far. I’m anxious to play again on Monday.

Tis all! More later!
